I've been receiving a free daily newsletter from Dr. Al Sears for a while now. Here is his latest which sounds very much like what could be happening with our National Health Insurance in the future as well.
Dear Andre,
Imagine you’re the person in charge of the most profitable industry the world has ever known. What would you say when offered the chance to force 40 million new people to buy your product? Who could blame you if you took that deal?
That’s the deal that President Obama gave the health insurance industry. It’s the deal that was passed into law as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

You might know it better as Obamacare.

The problem is that the product of this very profitable industry, health insurance, has not been that friendly to you in your real life. They try to charge as much money as possible for premiums and pay out as little of that money as they can. They don’t care if your mother is going to die without that surgery if it’s not approved by the HMO.

They’re in it for money. Now, that’s the American way, and I understand that. Companies are allowed to make a profit. But it becomes bad if the government forces you to buy that product without your consent.

How in the world can the United States government make anyone buy such a personal thing as their health care? It goes against the principles the country was founded on.
Plus, it’s a choice between a government-run insurance plan or a plan from one of the private insurance companies. Forcing you to choose between insurance companies is not health care, and it’s not really a choice, either.
Here’s what makes it even worse. There’s another of the world’s most profitable industries, and look at what
they’re doing. The pharmaceutical industry saw that deal being made and said, “Ah, 40 million new customers for drugs.”

Drug companies know that there were 3.7 billion prescriptions written last year. And that if you’re an “average” 65-year-old or older adult living in the United States, you fill more than 31 prescriptions each year.
Americans spent $320 billion on prescription drugs last year. And the drug companies would like it to be more.

So, what did Big Pharma do? They cut a deal with President Obama, too. They underhandedly offered a blatant bribe of $100 billion in additional taxes and discounts. It sounds a lot like a kickback to me. In return, those forced to become insured would be able to buy the drugmakers’ pills using their new coverage.
This put the pharmaceutical companies even more in bed with the government.
You might not have thought that was possible. Today, more than one out of every six dollars in the FDA’s budget already comes from companies this government agency is supposed to be policing.

That’s a direct conflict of interest when a department of the government has to rely on revenue from the companies it has influence over.

How can we expect the FDA to be a watchdog for us and bite the hand that feeds it?

As I write this, the Supreme Court is looking at overturning Obamacare.

At the same time, there are some in Congress willing to take a look at this behind-the-scenes deal between the pharmaceutical industry and the White House.

Several members of Congress on the House Energy and Commerce Committee have written to Pfizer, the world’s biggest drugmaker, along with Merck, Amgen, Abbott Laboratories and AstraZeneca to request documents about the deal.

So far, the drug companies are not cooperating. They have a lot of profits to lose if Obamacare is overturned.

Yet the government is moving ahead without consulting you. Obamacare passed without a single Republican vote. And unless something is done, Obamacare will soon have control over your health.

What can you do to avoid being forced into being controlled by health insurers, HMOs, drug companies and their drugs’ side effects?

1) Write your congressional representative. Tell them you have concerns over drug company funding of the FDA without public debate. Tell them you want the right to control what happens to your own body. You can contact them through www.senate.gov and www.house.gov.

2) The next time your doctor offers you a prescription, ask questions. Why do I have to take it? Are there alternatives? What are the side effects? How can I get more information?

3) Keep reading my Doctor’s House Call letters, and I’ll show you more and more alternatives to drugs. Keep yourself healthy and you’ll be less dependent on a suspect drug approval process.
To Your Good Health,
